MissionThe mission of the Bristow Run Elementary School Counseling Program is to promote students' personal, academic, social, and career success in a safe, respectful, and motivating school environment through a collaborative partnership of school staff, parents, and the community with the purpose of preparing all students for lifelong learning and productive citizenship.
PhilosophyThe professional school counselors at Bristow Run ES believe that every child can achieve and that all students have an equal right to access a certified school counselor and to participate in a RAMP-quality comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National Model.
The following principles are the foundation for the school counseling program:
· All students’ cultural differences, developmental stages, and special needs are considered in planning and implementing the school wide program.
· There is a collaborative effort among the school counselors, administration, and teachers to coordinate with parents and the community.
· Various assessments are used to develop and continually evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
· Classroom lessons taught by the counselors and school wide activities center on ASCA standards in Academic, Personal, Social, and Career development which are based on the Prince William County Guidance Curriculum (K-5).
· School counselors function as advocates for all students and leaders among school staff. They adhere to the ethical standards set by the American School Counselor Association. · Data generated in and out of the Counseling Department are reviewed jointly by the counselors and administrators. A cycle exists which consists of gathering data, planning interventions, and evaluating those interventions. Special Announcements
